President suggests delaying election until 'people can properly, securely and safely vote'

President Trump on Thursday morning tweeted about his concerns pertaining to the November 2020 election, suggesting that the vote should perhaps be delayed until Americans are able to "properly, securely and safely vote." 

The White House immediately issues a statement to the media, saying the president is simply raising a question.

The president and executive branch have no authority to postpone a presidential election, though Congress does. 

As the coronavirus pandemic persists in the United States, and the presidential election draws nearer, the president has grown increasingly concerned at the prospect of fraudulent voting that could take place if most Americans are forced to vote-by-mail in the fall. 

Attorney General William Barr told Congress during a hearing Tuesday that, in his view, increased mail-in balloting would likely increase the percentage of fraudulent ballots being cast and counted.
