Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes on Friday announced an investigation into former President Donald Trump's comments about former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and whether they broke the law.
Trump made headlines on Friday over remarks suggesting that politicians might not advocate for foreign wars if they had to fight themselves, though major media outlets ignored the broader context.
"She's a radical war hawk," Trump said of Cheney. "Let's put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Okay, let's see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face."
"You know, they're all war hawks when they're sitting in Washington, in a nice building saying 'oh gee, we'll -- let's send let's send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy. But she's a stupid person," he continued.
“I have already asked my criminal division chief to start looking at that statement, analyzing it for whether it qualifies as a death threat under Arizona’s laws,” Mayes told NBC affiliate 12NEWS.
