The official Red Lobster website on Tuesday listed 87 restaurants in more than 25 states that are temporarily closed as the company continues to struggle financially.

Some of the locations are likely to permanently close given that their kitchen equipment was found up for auction on a restaurant liquidator website.

USA Today reports that 48 locations so far are selling their kitchen equipment.

The company reportedly considered filing for bankruptcy in April but it appears they have not done so yet.

For about 18 years, Red Lobster ran endless shrimp as a temporary promotion. The company's financial struggles derived from changing all-you-eat shrimp from a promotion to a permanent part of the menu.

“We need to be much more careful,” said Thiraphong Chansiri, CEO of Thai Union, a Red Lobster stakeholder, last year in reference to the endless shrimp as a menu item, according to CNN.
