Tickets to Dodgers and Yankees World Series games are among the most expensive in history

Tickets to the World Series games between the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Yankees, are among the highest ever recorded, according to Yahoo Sports.

The 2024 World Series begins on Friday, and features a match-up of two of Major League Baseball's most prominent, and historic, teams, which are fueling the high ticket prices. The teams also feature five of the league's former Most Valuable Players in Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

It is also the 12th time these two teams have met in the World Series. Seven of them were the Yankees versus the Brooklyn Dodgers and the rest were the Yankees versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Resale ticket prices for the first game of the series were going for an average of $1,731 on SeatGeek as of Wednesday, $1,703 on TickPick, and $1,682 on Vivid Seats. The numbers make it the most expensive World Series on record, per TickPick.

Fans can purchase Standing Room Only tickets on TickPick for $1,514 for Monday's match, which is the third game of the series.

The first two games of the series are in Los Angeles, the next three, if no one sweeps the series in four games, are in New York, and the final two games would be back in LA.

Some are billing this World Series as a battle between the top home run hitters in their respective leagues. The Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani led the National League with 54 home runs and Aaron Judge of the Yankees led the Major League in home runs with 58.

StubHub said this year's tournament is on track to be the company's best-selling World Series in its 24-year history. It has already surpassed the revenue for the Diamondbacks-Rangers World Series last year.

StubHub spokesperson Adam Budelli said the superstar match-up and the high profile teams will also make the 2024 World Series really appealing for TV ratings.

“It’s kind of the perfect storm to drive what I’m sure will be record numbers on TV and certainly are record numbers from a ticket-selling perspective,” Budelli told Yahoo.
