Apple Maps has changed the name of a body of water once known as the "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America," following Google Maps doing the same thing.

On Tuesday, the White House posted a screenshot of the Apple app showing "Gulf of Mexico." Just the News confirmed that Apple Maps changed the name of the Gulf.

The change follows President Trump signing an executive order on Jan. 20, his first day in office, to restore names that "honor American greatness" by renaming the gulf and instructing the Interior Department to make the new name official. He also officially declared Feb. 9 "Gulf of America Day."

People using Google Maps in Mexico would still see "Gulf of Mexico," and people from other countries would see both names, which would be written as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)."

Apple made the change following online chiding, including Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who wrote Tuesday on X to Apple's CEO: "Hey @tim_cook, just noticed Apple Maps still calls it the Gulf of Mexico. Sent a report through the app, but thought you’d want to know.”

On Jan. 24, the Interior Department issued a statement confirming that "the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America."
