President Donald Trump welcomed the 2025 College Football National Champions to the White House to celebrate their 14-2 record and victory in collegiate football’s Division 1 CFP Championship.
The Ohio State University Buckeye football team met the president on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday to celebrate their win. Ohio State's captains presented Trump with a number 47 jersey.
Ohio State enjoyed a number one ranking throughout much of their 2024 season and won their division's title for the Big Ten Conference, beating out Northwestern University. They then went on to win the Rose Bowl in Pasadena against University of Oregon, securing their 8th Rose Bowl win. Their impressive run culminated with their 34-23 win over University of Notre Dame.
After the team secured the win, Ryan Day told the Associated Press, "it’s an honor to be invited. We were formally invited."
For his first opportunity to enjoy the 60-year tradition he said, "I remember growing up and watching the national championship teams go to the White House. I always looked at that, like, ‘Man, what an honor that would be.’ So it’s part of the celebration of our team... Looking forward to getting that all planned out."
The Buckeyes were seeded No. 6 during the College Football Playoffs and boast eight national championships.
