Senate Majority Leader Schumer privately told Biden to end reelection bid: report

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., reportedly told President Joe Biden in a private weekend meeting to stop his re-election bid. 

"I am told Chuck Schumer had a blunt one-on-one conversation with Biden Saturday afternoon in Rehoboth. Schumer forcefully made the case that it would be best if Biden bowed out of the race," according to ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl. 

"Hakeem Jeffries has expressed a similar view to Biden, according to a source familiar," he continued. "A Jeffries spokesman tells me, 'The letter sent by Leader Hakeem Jeffries to his House Democratic colleagues speaks for itself. It was a private conversation that will remain private.'"

Schumer reportedly met with Biden at his home in Rehoboth, Delaware on Saturday, per Reuters. 

Schumer said in a statement following the meeting that it was a "good meeting."

Fox News Digital obtained a statement from Schumer's office that it would not comment on the specifics of the meeting. 

Politico reported separately that Schumer told Biden he was concerned about Biden's poor performance affecting the Democratic party as a whole, citing "one person close to both men."

Multiple Democratic leaders have called on Biden to drop out of the race following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
