Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, said Tuesday that she continues to support studying the issue of reparations for descendants of slaves.

"On the point of reparations, it has to be studied, Harris said Tuesday on the "Charlamagne Tha God" radio show. There's no question about that. And I've been very clear about that position.

The eponymous show and its host, whose name Lenard Larry McKelvey, have become an influential part of Americans politics, particularly as an outlet for the views and concerns of black voters.

As a senator from California, Harris co-sponsored a bill to create a federal commission to examine slavery reparations and make recommendations on the issue.

However, Harris stopped short of backing a specific plan for reparations – which is compensation for an injustice.

In the United States, the matter of reparations has recently centered largely on giving money to the descendants of black Americans whose ancestors were pressed into slavery.
