Former Trump lawyer, fixer Michael Cohen to be released from prison amid coronavirus, report
Cohen is serving a three year sentence in a New York federal facility
Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, will purportedly be released from federal prison as a result of the coronavirus and allowed to serve his sentence at home until the pandemic is under control.
The purported release was first reported by the Associated Press, based on what the wire service says was a source familiar with the matter.
Officials have been releasing non-violent and low-level inmates in an attempt to slow the spread of the highly contagious virus, considering the close quarters in which people behind bars live.
Cohen is serving a three-year sentence at FCI Otisville, in New York. He pleaded pleading guilty in 2018 to charges includingf campaign finance fraud and lying to Congress.
Cohen began serving his sentence in May 2019 and was scheduled for release in November 2021.
