Georgia Republican Lt. Gov. Jones attacks 'missing' Secretary of State Raffensperger in new ad

Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones launched an attack ad against Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, for allegedly being "missing" from his job in a potential prelude to a 2026 gubernatorial race between the two. 

"Has anyone seen Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger? You know, the same guy who's supposed to uphold our state's election integrity," the ad, which was launched Monday, opens while displaying an illustration portraying Raffensperger as missing on a milk carton.

The ad also says that Raffensperger has missed important state legislature hearings, has spent 42 in his office this year and since 2021, he has spent 70% of his days out of office.  

With incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp unable to run for reelection due to term limits in the state constitution, Jones has publicly expressed interest in running for governor in 2026. Raffensperger is believed to be a potential candidate as well.

"Burt is exactly what’s wrong with politics," Georgia Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs told Just the News. "All bluster, no substance. Brad works everyday for the people of GA. Unlike Burt, Brad believes he works for the people of GA which is why he spends his days around the state helping to solve real issues. That’s why GA has the most secure elections in the country."

Additionally, Jones, who was supported by former President Donald Trump in his 2022 bid to become lieutenant governor, has butted heads with Raffensperger regarding the former president's claims about Georgia's 2020 election, according to The Hill.

A state official with the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia said in August that a special prosecutor would be appointed to consider whether Jones should be charged following the Fulton County indictment of Trump and 18 of his allies over an alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.
