Treasury Department evacuated over suspicious package

The call came in at approximately 9:45 a.m. Eastern and the D.C. Metropolitan police were also called to the scene. The department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal team eventually deemed the area safe.

The Secret Service on Thursday morning evacuated the Treasury Department and a nearby hotel over a suspicious package that was left unattended. 

The call came in at approximately 9:45 a.m. Eastern, according to local media reports, and the D.C. Metropolitan police were also called to the scene. The department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal team has since deemed the area safe. 

Several streets in the area remained closed as of Thursday afternoon, including 17th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, from New York Avenue NW to E Street NW, according to DC News Now.
