Tugboats remove cargo ship that toppled Francis Scott Key Bridge, assist vessel back to port

The container ship the crashed earlier this spring into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, blocking a major East Coast port and killing six road-crew workers, has been removed from the accident site and returned to the docks by a tug boats.

The Dali – heavily damaged from hitting a bridge support and the bridge collapsing on it – had been stuck in the Patapsco River channel since the accident occurred in the pre-dawn hours of March 26. 

The vessel was re-floated at high tide Monday morning with extensive damage to its bow included a massive hole above the waterline on its starboard side, according to the Associated Press. 

Crews have already cleared thousands of tons of mangled steel from the bridge collapse and the process of getting the Port of Baltimore fully open is weeks ahead of schedule.
