Senate Judiciary chairman Grassley implores Trump, Patel to rehire 'patriotic' FBI whistleblowers

Grassley has been a vocal supporter of the whistleblowers for many years.

The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman is imploring President Donald Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel to rehire the agents and other bureau employees who blew the whistle on alleged wrongdoing during the Biden years.

"If the President would take this seriously, these people would be back to work in a little while," Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, told Just the News.

Grassley mentioned the FBI whistleblowers during a recent episode of the John Solomon Reports podcast during which he also raised concerns that federal agencies lost track of approximately 200,000 children who crossed the southern border without parents during the Biden administration.

He said he hopes Patel, the new FBI chief, is going to respond to years of his oversight letters that were ignored by his predecessor Chris Wray.

"It's moving a little slower than I was hoping it would, but I pray that he'll do it," Grassley said.

Grassley said he is trying to ensure that the numerous whistleblowers who emerged during the Biden administration and lost their jobs or security clearances will be made whole.

"If they were good public servants before they became official whistleblowers and they didn't do anything wrong that we might not know about, then they ought to have their jobs back yesterday," the long-serving senator. "And if this administration can fire people, they can rehire them and help the whistleblowers too."

He also pointed out that the "patriotic" whistleblowers highlighting the "wrong" things happening under the Biden administration contributed to Trump's victory in 2024.

Grassley has been a vocal supporter of the whistleblowers, who previously demanded the Justice Department and the FBI to "come clean" about the Biden-era allegations and called on the Justice Department to implement changes to protect whistleblowers when they come forward with concerns.

"The Justice Department’s failure to follow the law only serves to create a chilling effect on employees reporting wrongdoing out of fear they will have their security clearances suspended and indefinitely put on leave without pay, with little recourse to appeal the decision," Grassley wrote in a letter to Biden Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.
