Treasury Department sanctions Iranian petroleum magnate who previously tried to ship oil from Texas

The sanctions come as President Donald Trump and his administration tries to both negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran, and also keep up its maximum pressure campaign.

The Treasury Department on Tuesday announced new sanctions against Iranian national and oil magnate Seyed Asadoollah Emamjomeh, his son, and his network for shipping millions of dollars worth of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and crude oil to foreign markets.

One of the ships in Emamjomeh's network allegedly tried in 2024 to load oil off the coast of Houston, Texas, in order to sell it to China, but was caught. However, oil and LPG are still major sources of revenue for the Iranian regime, which helps fund Iran's nuclear program and its proxy wars in the Middle East, the department said.

“Emamjomeh and his network sought to export thousands of shipments of LPG—including from the United States—to evade U.S. sanctions and generate revenue for Iran,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. “The United States remains committed to holding accountable those who seek to provide the Iranian regime with the funding it needs to further its destabilizing activities in the region and around the world.”

The sanctions come as President Donald Trump and his administration try to both negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran, and also keep up its maximum pressure campaign, according to the Daily Wire.

The sanctions block “all property and interests in the property of the designated persons," and the properties must be reported to the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Emamjomeh's son Meisam Emamjomeh, a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based British and Iranian national, has also been sanctioned by the department. Meisam Emamjomeh now owns the UAE-based Pearl Petrochemical FZE, which his father previously owned. He also acts as director and CEO of United Kingdom-based Worldwide LPG Limited, and serves on the board of multiple of his father's Iran-based companies.
