Tom Homan warns Hochul ICE could flood New York if it fails to comply with immigration crackdown

“Sanctuary cities are going to get exactly what they don’t want: more agents in the community,” Homan said. “New York State, you’ve got to change your sanctuary status and if you don’t, get out of the way. We’re going to do our job."

Border czar Tom Homan on Wednesday warned New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul that he could flood the state with federal immigration agents if the state continues to keep its sanctuary status.

The warning occurred during Homan's trip to Albany, where he praised New York City Mayor Eric Adams for his work on cracking down on illegal immigration, and migrant crime. His appearance occurred at a rally where Republicans pushed to repeal the state's Green Light law, which allows illegal migrants to get driver’s licenses.

Homan previously said that he was open to meeting with Hochul during his latest trip to New York, but the pair did not meet because the governor was attending a funeral on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.

“Sanctuary cities are going to get exactly what they don’t want: more agents in the community,” Homan said. “We’ll double the man-force if we have to. Rather than one officer arresting a bad guy, now I have to send a whole team. New York State, you’ve got to change your sanctuary status and if you don’t, get out of the way. We’re going to do our job."

The governor's office brushed off the warning, stating that she was devoted to keeping New York safe, but would not support tearing families apart.

“Governor Hochul has been clear with New Yorkers: she supports secure borders and deporting violent criminals, but won’t let New York help the Trump Administration tear babies away from their parents,” a spokesman for Hochul told the outlet.

“This isn’t the first time Trump Administration officials have lied about our policies — and it probably won’t be the last — but Governor Hochul is staying focused on keeping New Yorkers safe," he added.

Homan said that he has another meeting with Adams scheduled for this week, where the pair are expected to talk more about cracking down on migrant crime. But it was not immediately clear when the meeting would take place.
