IRS sending out $1,400 stimulus rebates to taxpayers who didn't claim them on returns
According to the IRS, all eligible recipients should have received the payments by next week.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is in process of sending out $1,400 "Recovery Rebate Credits" to about one million taxpayers who never claim the credits on their tax returns.
The credits were enacted during the COVID pandemic.
According to the IRS, all eligible recipients should have received the payments by next week.
“Looking at our internal data, we realized that one million taxpayers overlooked claiming this complex credit when they were actually eligible,” Danny Werfel, commissioner of the IRS, said in December. “To minimize headaches and get this money to eligible taxpayers, we’re making these payments automatic, meaning these people will not be required to go through the extensive process of filing an amended return to receive it.”
