ICE arrests more than 1,100 illegal migrants during week-long Florida operation
The operation spanned from April 21-26, and included the arrests of 378 criminal illegal migrants that had final removal orders from immigration judges. A total of 1,120 illegal migrants were arrested.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Thursday announced federal and state authorities in Florida have arrested more than 1,100 illegal migrants in Florida during a week-long operation.
The operation spanned from April 21-26, and included the arrests of 378 criminal illegal migrants that had final removal orders from immigration judges. A total of 1,120 illegal migrants were arrested.
"Today, I joined our federal partners to highlight a first-of-its-kind immigration enforcement effort called 'Operation Tidal Wave,'" Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis posted to X. "This is the largest operation of its kind in the nation, and we did it here in Florida because I insisted state and local law enforcement agencies provide cooperation and support for immigration enforcement efforts."
The law enforcement agency stated that the arrests included alleged gang members, violent offenders, sex offenders, fugitives and people who pose significant threats to public safety.
The largest group of illegal migrants (437 people) originally hailed from Guatemala, but 280 came from Mexico, 153 illegal migrants came from Honduras, 48 came from Venezuela, 24 from El Salvador, and 178 people came from other places that were not disclosed.
The migrants who have already been given final orders are expected to be deported immediately, but the hundreds of other illegal migrants are still awaiting due process before an immigration judge.
“Last week’s operational success of arresting more than 1,100 criminal illegal aliens was truly a collaborative whole-of-government effort by our federal, state and local law enforcement partners in Florida,” ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan said in a statement. "Every day, our officers take to the streets and put their lives on the line to apprehend and remove dangerous criminal aliens, transnational gang members and foreign fugitives who have illegally entered the U.S.
"We are united in our determination to restore integrity to our nation’s immigration system and enhance public safety for all Americans," she added.
