US to release cybercrime kingpin Vinnik to Russia as part of deal that returned Fogel to US
Fogel returned to U.S. soil on Tuesday after roughly three years in confinement in Russia.
The United States is reportedly set to return cybercrime kingpin Alexander Vinnik to Russian as part of an exchange for American Marc Fogel.
The swap was reported by NBC News on Wednesday based on information from an unnamed U.S. official.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to identify Vinnik but acknowledged earlier in the day that a Russian citizen was freed in exchange for Fogel, who had been held in Russian since his arrest in 2021, also according to NBC News.
"This citizen of the Russian Federation will also be returned to Russia in the coming days," he said Wednesday.
