Missouri GOP Sen. Josh Hawley on Thursday pushed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify in front of a Senate subcommittee, after a whistleblower alleged that Facebook repeatedly undermined national security.

The letter comes after Sarah Wynn-Williams, the former director of global public policy at Facebook, testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Crime and Counterterrorism Subcommittee on Wednesday, where she alleged Meta executives repeatedly “betray[ed] American values” during her seven-year tenure with the company.

The former employee claimed that Meta officials tried to curry favor with the Chinese government in order to build an $18 billion business in the Asian country, The Hill reported.

Hawley called on Zuckerberg in a letter to give his side of the story, and respond to the allegations under oath.

“The American people deserve to know the truth about your company,” Hawley wrote, adding, “The public deserves to hear your response to these serious allegations, particularly since they pertain to American national security.”

The letter urges Zuckerberg to testify in front of the subcommittee in its upcoming hearing titled: “A Time for Truth, Part II: Oversight of Meta’s Foreign Relations and Representations to the United States.”

It is not clear when the hearing is expected to take place.
