On Jan. 20, Inauguration Day, President Donald Trump pardoned approximately 1,500 January 6 prisoners and defendants, not distinguishing between those who had been found guilty of violent attacks and those who had not. Outgoing President Biden pardoned the House members of the January 6 select committee and their staff from any possible future prosecution based on their investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots.
