Trump seeks delay in New York AG's fraud case

Former President Donald Trump on Friday requested a six-month delay to a civil fraud case against him brought by New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James.

James has alleged that Trump repeatedly inflated the value of his major properties to increase his net worth to secure both loans and further investments in his business. The Trump legal team requested the delay citing the bevy of materials involved in the case that required review.

"Defendants cannot possibly review the staggering volume of material, serve subpoenas, review subpoenaed materials, prepare for and conduct depositions — all within a three-and-a-half month period from the date on which Plaintiff produced its investigative file — and then prepare and present expert reports one month later," they asserted, according to The Hill.

"The requested extension allows Defendants a fair and reasonable opportunity to engage in meaningful discovery and to prepare and present an adequate legal defense," they continued.

James has previously rejected a settlement offer from Trump in relation to the case and in November secured a court order appointing an independent monitor to oversee the Trump Organization to whom the company must submit any restructuring plans or asset sales while the case is ongoing.

Trump has denounced the suit as a political witch hunt.
