Supreme Court dismisses case that let people under 21 carry guns during emergencies in PA
There no dissents in Tuesday's ruling, which dismissed a case in Pennsylvania that allowed young adults under 21 to carry guns during emergencies.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a Pennsylvania case that allowed young adults under 21 to carry guns during emergencies, overturning a lower court's ruling on the topic.
A federal appeals court in January determined that young adults cannot be arrested for carrying guns during a declared state of emergency, which was based on the high court's 2022 ruling that determined states must rely on a historical basis for new firearm restrictions.
The appeals court ruled in January that 18- to 20-year-olds should enjoy the same Second Amendment rights as other citizens, because they enjoy other rights like the right to vote, according to the Associated Press. Pennsylvania challengers however claimed that young adults were not banned from owning firearms when the country was founded.
There were no dissents on Tuesday's ruling.
Pennsylvania is one of 32 states that require gun owners to be at least 21 years of age, CNN reported.
