Missouri attorney general launches investigation into St. Louis transgender clinic

The attorney general of Missouri announced this week that his office is opening an investigation into a controversial transgender clinic in St. Louis that one whistleblower claims has been carrying out extremist procedures on minors. 

The investigation comes after Jamie Reed, a former caseworker at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital, wrote in the Free Press that the clinic in question was "permanently harming the vulnerable patients" attending it, in part by facilitating "morally and medically appalling" treatments including hormone therapy.

In a press release on Thursday, state Attorney General Andrew Bailey said his office has already begun "a full investigation into these shocking allegations."

"The Office has already received a sworn affidavit from the whistleblower and documents that support her allegations," Bailey's office wrote. 

“As Attorney General, I want Missouri to be the safest state in the nation for children,” Attorney General Andrew Bailey said in the announcement. “We have received disturbing allegations that individuals at the Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital have been harming hundreds of children each year, including by using experimental drugs on them."

"We take this evidence seriously and are thoroughly investigating to make sure children are not harmed by individuals who may be more concerned with a radical social agenda than the health of children," he added.
