Lawsuit seeks arrest of woman in connection with 1955 murder of Emmett Till
Teenage boy was murdered after accusations from white woman
A lawsuit is seeking to compel the arrest of a woman connected to the brutal 1955 murder of young black boy Emmett Till in Mississippi.
Till was tortured and murdered by two men in August of that year after Carolyn Bryant accused him of improper behavior toward her.
Demands surged for Bryant’s arrest last year when an unserved arrest warrant against her from 1955 was found in a state courthouse basement.
Till’s cousin, Patricia Sterling, meanwhile, this week filed a federal lawsuit in court demanding Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks arrest Bryant for her role in the killing.
“We are using the available means at our disposal to try to achieve justice on behalf of the Till family,” attorney Trent Walker told The Associated Press on Friday.
Bryant is nearing 90 and is reported to live in North Carolina.
