GOP Sen. Graham suggests Trump commit crimes to avoid NY indictment

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Friday suggested that former President Donald Trump commit a litany of petty and violent crimes in order to avoid an indictment, seemingly referencing the District Attorney's propensity for not pursuing cases against such offenders.
Trump is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday after a grand jury voted to indict him this week. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's case stems from a 2016 payment to Stormy Daniels that Trump's then-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, made. Legal experts have called the case baseless while Republicans have uniformly deemed it a political prosecution.
"How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?" Graham asked on Twitter. "On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!"
Within the first week of assuming office, Bragg issued a memo listing crimes that his office would not prosecute, though he ultimately reversed some of those policies.
Bragg, one of many progressive prosecutors backed by left-wing megadonor George Soros, has a history of downgrading potential felony charges to misdemeanors. In 2022 alone, he downgraded 52% of felony cases, whereas his predecessor did so at a rate of 39% in the previous year.
He further scored a felony conviction rate of 51% and sought bail for only 49% of felony cases. Violent crime surged 27% during his first year in office.
