A jury found Alex Murdaugh guilty of murdering his wife and son following a six-week trial that attracted national attention.
The jury reportedly spent less than 3 hours debating his culpability, according to Fox News. A total of 76 witnesses testified during the trial, which also saw prosecutors play Murdaugh's 911 call.
The former South Carolina attorney's wife, Margaret, and 22-year-old son, Paul, were found dead in June 2021 near the kennels on their family property. Authorities determined that Paul sustained two shotgun blasts while Margaret was hit with rifle rounds.
Murdaugh took the stand in his own defense during the trial and adamantly denied his guilt, saying "I did not shoot my wife or son any time, ever."
He faces life in prison. During the investigation, authorities explored his past dealings and have since pressed many other charges related to his interactions with clients.
