Speaker Johnson says chamber will vote Thursday vote on Senate-passed budget resolution after delay
The vote is expected to take place Thursday morning.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Thursday the GOP-led chamber will vote today on a Senate-passed, blueprint budget resolution – after he postponed the vote the night before upon realizing he didn't have enough votes for its passage.
“I believe we have the votes to finally adopt the budget resolution so we can move forward among President Trump’s very important agenda for the American people,” Johnson said.
The budget resolution blueprint is critical toward advancing President Trump's legislative agenda, namely what he calls his "Big Beautiful Bill," which includes funding for the southern U.S. border and tax and spending cuts.
The measure's passage is by some of the most fiscal conservative members of Johnson's GOP conference.
If the House doesn’t pass the Senate budget resolution as is, Johnson will have to decide whether to make changes to get it passed or have negotiators, known as conferees, try to craft a compromise bill, with Congress set to adjourn Thursday for religious holidays.
Senate Republican leader Sen. John Thune, says the Senate is “aligned with the House in terms of what their budget resolution outlined in terms of savings.”
