The Republican-led Senate is expected to vote Friday on the House-approved six month spending bill to avoid a government shutdown at midnight.

Member will take two votes, the first to end debate on the measure, a process known as "invoking cloture," then a final vote.

The procedural first vote in the 100-member chamber will require 60 yeses.

Republicans have 53 members, and Schumer says he'll provide the seven or more Democrat votes needed to get the temporary spending measure to the final vote, with only 50 votes needed for passage. The bill cleared the House on a party-line vote earlier this week.
