The Democratic-led House of Representatives decisively voted on Tuesday to approve a 4,500-page $740 billion defense bill that President Trump had urged House Republicans to vote against and said that he would veto.

Trump wanted the defense bill to include repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. The bill passed in the House by a vote of 335-78.

"I hope House Republicans will vote against the very weak National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which I will VETO," the president tweeted on Tuesday. "Must include a termination of Section 230 (for National Security purposes), preserve our National Monuments, & allow for 5G & troop reductions in foreign lands!"

If the Senate also approves the bill, it will head to the president's desk. House leaders said that they will be able to override a veto from Trump.

"It takes two-thirds to pass it. If the president is being unreasonable, then we will get that," House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith told reporters on Monday.

House Armed Services ranking member Mac Thornberry said that Trump is "serious" about vetoing the defense authorization bill if it doesn't include elimination of Section 230.
