Former New York City mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg said that he would help fund the United Nations' mission to fight climate change after President Donald Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Bloomberg Philanthropies and other organizations put out a statement that said they will “ensure the United States meets its global climate obligations," according to Forbes.

Bloomberg said that these groups are committed to making sure the U.S. lowers its greenhouse gas emissions.

“From 2017 to 2020, during a period of federal inaction, cities, states, businesses, and the public rose to the challenge to uphold our nation’s commitments—and now, we are ready to do it again,” the former mayor said, according to Politico.

Earlier this week, Trump signed an executive order that withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement

The order says it is among a number of international agreements that don’t reflect U.S. values and “steer American taxpayer dollars to countries that do not require, or merit, financial assistance in the interests of the American people.”

By withdrawing from the agreement, the U.S. will join a few other countries, according to The Hill, which have not signed onto the agreement, including Iran, Libya and Yemen.
