A former top adviser to President Bill Clinton, Mark Penn, slammed President Joe Biden's farewell speech Thursday, saying he didn't warn about the abuse of unchecked government power.

"The danger that Joe Biden failed to warn about in his speech was the power of government and its abuse," Penn wrote on the social media platform, X. "Abuse when government determines what can and cannot be written on social media. Abuse when government gives jobs and money to political friends instead of those most qualified."

Penn said in his social media post that government unchecked power looks like a president pardoning his own son for tax crimes while demanding everyday people pay taxes on time.

Last month, Biden pardoned his son Hunter on gun and tax charges, despite promising not to make such a move.

"Abuse when a president says others should pay taxes while pardoning his own son for failing to pay taxes on millions shaken out of shady global interests," Penn wrote.

During Biden's final speech as president, he warned Americans of the dangers of the ultra wealthy controlling the United States.

"There's a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra wealthy people, the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is left unchecked today," Biden said in his speech. "[There is an] oligarchy taking shape in America. An extreme wealth, power and influence that really threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights, freedoms and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead."
