TikTok CEO Shou Chew thanked President-elect Donald Trump in a video message Friday for trying to keep the app legal in the U.S., following the Supreme Court upholding its ban.

“I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to work with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States,” he said in a video posted to TikTok. "This is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship.”

The Supreme Court hours earlier upheld the federal law banning TikTok in the U.S. beginning Sunday unless it’s sold by its China-based parent company, ByteDance.

The high court's nine justices were unanimous in the ruling.

“We are grateful and pleased to have the support of a president who truly understands our platform — one who has used TikTok to express his own thoughts and perspectives, connecting with the world and generating more than 60 billion views of his content in the process," Chew said in the video.

The law was enacted because of national security concerns, with the app, know for its short-form dance videos, having over 170 million users in the U.S.
