NFL's Redskins change name to 'Washington Football Team,' reports
Team ownership changed the name and logo amid mounting pressure from corporate sponsors responding to calls for social justice reform
The NFL football team formerly known as the Washington Redskins has changed its name to "Washington Football Team," the franchise said Thursday.
Team officials said they will keep the name through this year, amid efforts to secure rights to a new name.
Ownership earlier this month dropped the decades-old Redskins name and logo amid mounting pressure from corporate sponsors responding to protests across the county calling for social justice for Black Americans and other minority groups.
