International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday announced that Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin is helping curate a first ever Super Bowl-style halftime show for the World Cup final next year.

The FIFA 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will end on July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, which will be known as the New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup. There will also be a "takeover" of Times Square, per the Associated Press.

It is not clear whether Coldplay will perform at the event, or how long the half-time show will last. Soccer half-time breaks normally last 15 minutes, even at the World Cup.

“I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York New Jersey, in association with (advocacy organization) Global Citizen," Infantino posted on Instagram after attending a FIFA conference in Dallas. "This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world."

The takeover will take place the final weekend of the World Cup, during both the bronze medal match and the championship game.

"These will be two incredible matches, featuring some of the best players in the world, and what better way to celebrate them than in the historic Times Square in New York City," he said.

Infantino added that Martin is helping book guests for the show and the Times Square takeover, along with Coldplay manager Phil Harvey. But no line-up has been teased so far.
