Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi, an ambassador, reportedly died in South Africa of unknown causes

Zindzi Mandela, the daughter of South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, reportedly died Monday of unknown causes. She was 59. 

Mandela had been South Africa’s ambassador to Denmark since 2015. 

She started her work in government in 1985, with the brutal system of racial discrimination enforced in South Africa at the time, according to the Associated Press.

Madela is survived by her four children and her husband.

State television South African Broadcasting Corporation has reported that Mandela died at a Johannesburg hospital early Monday morning, the wire service reported.

Mandela came to international prominence in 1985, when the white minority government offered to release her father from prison if he denounced violence perpetrated by his movement, the Africa National Congress, against apartheid, the brutal system of racial discrimination enforced in South Africa at that time.

She rejecting the offer at a packed public meeting that was broadcast around the world.
