Pro-war Kremlin critic Igor Girkin arrested by Russian authorities

Pro-war Russian blogger and former military leader Igor Girkin, who has been critical of the Kremlin’s execution of its war in Ukraine, was arrested on Friday, July 21, on charges of incitement to extremism on the internet, state media reported. Girkin, who also goes by the alias Igor Strelkov, played an instrumental role in Russia’s invasions of Crimea and Donbass in 2014 and became a senior figure in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), one of the Kremlin’s two proxy governments established in occupied east Ukraine.
