Tesla lays off supercharging team as auto industry adopts its charging standard: Report
"If Tesla is yielding the charging crown, who will step up?" says an employee who was let go
Electric vehicle maker Tesla has reportedly decided to let go of its entire supercharging team of employees, according to the Electrek EV news website and posts on X from Tesla employees who are part of the layoffs.
"Confirmed - @Tesla @elonmusk has let our entire charging org go," wrote Will Jameson Tuesday on X. "What this means for the charging network, NACS, and all the exciting work we were doing across the industry, I don't yet know. What a wild ride it has been."
"But also what a unique opportunity for the industry to capitalize on the newly available talent and expertise in the space. If Tesla is yielding the charging crown, who will step up?" he added.
Most of the major carmakers have announced that they are adopting Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) in all of their future EV models.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also opened the company's vast charging network to other brands like Ford and Rivian. The network was previously only accessible by Tesla vehicle owners.
It is unclear how dissolving the supercharging team at Tesla will impact the company's plans to continue expanding its charging network or the industry's transition to Tesla's charging standard.
