An hours-long power outage at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Monday caused multiple flight delays and long-lines.

The outage, which began at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, has since been resolved. It impacted elevators, escalators and moving walkways at the airport, and forced the airport to divert some incoming flights. Power was restored by 11:15 a.m.

The cause of the incident was not immediately clear, but local reports noted that wires were down in the area near the airport.

"BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is currently experiencing a power outage impacting areas of the main terminal and Hourly Garage," the airport said in a post on X on Monday morning. "Crews are working to restore power. Some flights continue to operate, delays are possible. Travelers, please confirm flight status with your airline."

The airport later said that all power had been restored, but that there would be long lines at ticket counters, checkpoints and concessions.

The incident comes during a period of increased scrutiny at U.S. airports after a series of aviation incidents earlier this year. One plane collided with a military helicopter, killing all passengers and crew in both vehicles.
