Survey finds that many small business employees have a second or third job

A survey conducted by the Freedom Economy Index found that at many small businesses, over 30% of employees have taken on second jobs and in some cases a third job. 

Over 80,000 small businesses were surveyed in early February and 840 responded. 

“Now in our seventh month of surveying America’s small business community, we’re seeing interesting trends emerge,” PublicSquare CEO Michael Seifert said in a statement. “This economy has been difficult on employers and employees alike. And, while some of the big corporations may be thriving in this environment, small businesses are feeling the continued weight of inflation and high interest rates.” 

The survey reports that up to 37.2% of small businesses say over 30% of their employees have had to take on another job or jobs due to inflation. The percentage jumped to 47.1% for small businesses that had been around for fewer than 10 years.

Over 70% of those surveyed also said that crime had recently spiked in their area, prompting moves and increased security. 

The Freedom Economy Index is a project of PublicSquare and RedBalloon.work. The survey was conducted Feb. 5-9 and had a margin of error of +/-3.0% with a confidence level of 95 percent.
