Michelle Obama 'terrified' of 2024 election outcome
Obama further emphasized the importance of setting the right "tone" when messaging to the public.
Former first lady Michelle Obama on Monday expressed her fears that about the outcome of the 2024 election, asserting that her fears for the future "keep me up."
Obama made the remarks during an apparent on the "On Purpose" podcast.
"What's going to happen in this next election? I’m terrified about what could possibly happen, because our leaders matter. Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit — it affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted," she said, according to CNN. "The fact that people think that government, does it really even do anything? And I’m like, 'Oh my God, does government do everything for us.' And we cannot take this democracy for granted. And sometimes I worry that we do."
Obama further emphasized the importance of setting the right "tone" when messaging to the public, The Hill reported.
"I think we are obligated to model, for those of us that have a platform, because it resonates," she said. "And I want to resonate good. I want to resonate reason, and compassion and empathy."
"Are people going to vote, and why aren't people voting? Those are the things that keep me up, because you don’t have control over them," she added.
Obama has long attracted attention as a potential presidential candidate for the Democrats, especially amid concurrent speculation that President Joe Biden may not become the eventual Democratic nominee in 2024.
