'We need Donald Trump!': GOP Sen. Tim Scott backs ex-President at New Hampshire rally
His decision to back Trump may come as a blow to former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who previously governed the Palmetto State and appointed Scott to his seat.
South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott on Friday endorsed former President Donald Trump for president.
"We need a president who will close our southern border today. We need Donald Trump!" he declared. "We need a president who will unite our country. We need Donald Trump!"
Scott's endorsement speech continued in the same vein with him ultimately leading the crowd in the refrain "we need Donald Trump" in several instances.
"That's why I came to the very warm state of New Hampshire to endorse the next president of these United States. President Donald Trump!" he concluded.
Scott made the announcement during a rally in Concord, N.H., after reports emerged earlier in the day of his plans. The South Carolina senator sought the Republican nomination himself, but dropped out prior to the Iowa Caucus.
His decision to back Trump may come as a blow to former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who previously governed the Palmetto State and appointed Scott to his Senate seat. The South Carolina primary will follow the New Hampshire contest.
