Coronavirus Update: Focus shifts to testing, as Trump tries to get anxious Americans back to work
President Trump says U.S. past peak on number on new infections
Americans required by governors to stay at home and off the job because of the coronavirus rallied Wednesday in two states – Michigan and Kentucky.
Hundreds gathered at the state capitals, asking to go back to work, as President Trump says the U.S. appears to have passed its peak on new cases.
The number of virus-related cases in the U.S. is now 639,664 and the number of related deaths is 30,985. The worldwide figures are 2.07 million confirmed cases and 138,008 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
The international focus now appears to have shift from concerns about treating patients to getting enough accurate infection tests into the population.
The president is expected Thursday to release a plan on how to reopen the country.
