Harris criticized for saying Biden admin has made affordable energy among 'highest priorities'
Harris made her comments in a state with the second highest average gas price in America.
Social media users say Vice President Kamala Harris overreached in a recent speech that the Biden administration has made affordable energy one of its “highest priorities.”
Harris made the claim in a speech in Seattle.
“Every year, working families pay thousands of dollars just to keep the fridge and lights on,” Harris said. “So think about what this means. And for the President and me, one of our highest priorities then has been to lower energy costs.”
On X, former known as Twitter, one user said: “My electric bill has tripled.”
Another said his or her record-high electric bill came just last month.
Many Americans have seen their electricity bills double or triple in the last few years.
A California utility company warned customers in January that their upcoming bills could increased more than 140% due to a more than 300% surge in natural gas costs in the state, according to the Los AngelesTimes.
“Total lie,” another social media use said about Harris' claim, arguing the cost of gasoline for cars has in some parts of the county recently hit a 10-month high.
Washington, where Harris spoke Tuesday, is second to California for the highest gas prices in the nation – over $5 a gallon as of Tuesday, according to AAA.
