Duke Energy will decommission Chinese-made battery facility that served Marine Corp base

A major utility will reportedly decommission a battery storage facility from a Marine Corp base, under pressure from Congress.

Duke Energy, Reuters reports, will decommission the facility at Camp LeJeune, which was produced by Chinese battery maker CATL.

In December, Duke Energy temporarily disconnected the facility a Camp LeJeune, the largest Marine Corp base in the country, after lawmakers and experts raised concerns about the company’s connection to China’s Communist Party.

U.S. military brass, according to Reuters, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony less than a year ago when the facility went online.
