Buttigieg denies that Biden-Harris admin is mandating EVs, accuses Trump of letting China get ahead
“Now we know that EV technology is coming whether people are ready for it or not,” Buttigieg said in the Fox interview, and then claimed that Trump allowed China to take the lead on EVs.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appeared to get defensive during an interview on “Fox and Friends” Tuesday, when questioned about the Biden-Harris administration’s EV mandates.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade asked Buttigieg if Harris’ campaign was harmed by the EV mandate, to which Buttigieg denied there is a mandate.
“And if somebody wants an EV, they can get it. And if somebody wants a gas car, they can get it," Buttigieg said.
Buttigieg also said that the main goal of the Biden-Harris administration is that every car is made in America.
“Now we know that EV technology is coming whether people are ready for it or not,” Buttigieg said, and then claimed that Trump allowed China to take the lead on EVs.
Kilmeade then questioned Biden’s mining policies, which have often restricted the ability to create mineral supply chains in the U.S.
“Is this an interview or a debate? Can I at least finish the sentence?” Buttigieg asked.
“Well, I just can’t let you throw out fallacies. It’s important,” Kilmeade replied.
“Excuse me? Name one statement that I just made that you would say is factually inaccurate,” Buttigieg said.
“The statement you just made that Donald Trump let China take the lead,” Kilmeade replied.
Buttigieg answered by restating that the Biden-Harris administration’s goal is to get more of the cars built here in the U.S.
