Republican Nick Begich beats incumbent for Alaska's sole House seat: AP
Peltola, who won the seat in 2022 after the death of the late congressman Don Young, conceded the election to Begich in a statement to the Associated Press.
Republican challenger Nick Begich won Alaska's sole House seat on Wednesday, defeating incumbent Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola.
The election was one of the last House races to be called for the 2024 election cycle, where Republicans flipped the Senate and the White House. They have also maintained control of the House.
Peltola, who won the seat in 2022 after the death of the late congressman Don Young, conceded the election to Begich in a statement to the Associated Press. Begich was endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump.
“Working for Alaska as a member of our federal delegation has been the honor of my life," Peltola said. “The path ahead will not be built by one person or three people working for all of Alaska but by all Alaskans working together to build a future that works for all of us. Nick, I’m rooting for you."
Begich, who is a life-long Republican, comes from a line of Democratic politicians. Begich's grandfather held the same seat he will take in January before Young, and one of his uncles was a Democratic senator.
