President Donald Trump has signed executive orders that aim to change how universities are accredited, arguing the existing process is based on "woke ideology."

The orders are among the latest in the Trump administration's effort to try to reshape higher education, arguing campuses have become havens for far-left ideology and curriculum, unchecked antisemitism, and hirings and admissions based on diversity, equity and inclusion over meritocracy.

One order, signed by Trump on Wednesday, will set up “new accreditation pathways" for universities because for too long colleges have relied on "woke ideology," according to the news outlet NOTUS.

The details of the accreditation pathways are not clear at this time.

Another executive order states that federal funds will be cut off from universities if they don't disclose money received by foreign entities, according to the news outlet Politico.

"Today’s Executive Orders pave the way for critical innovations – inviting more competition in the higher education accreditation system, ensuring transparency in college finances, supporting new technologies in the classroom, and more," Education Secretary Linda McMahon wrote on the social media platform X about the changes.

Trump authorized McMahon and Attorney General Pam Bondi to either suspend or monitor the recognition of accreditors that promote 'diversity, equity and inclusion' initiatives.
