Donald Trump Jr. will speak at the Republican National Convention ahead of Trump as-yet-unannounced vice presidential pick, Axios reported.

The outlet suggested that Trump Jr.'s speaking slot signaled the former president had opted for Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, whom his son has supported for the post.

Along with Vance, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum have emerged as the three finalists for the post. Trump has not signaled when he will announce his choice, though Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller said Monday that "[b]y this time next Monday, we will know who President Trump has selected as his running mate for the 2024 election."

Earlier this week, Trump himself expressed concerns about Rubio and Burgum, pointing to the former's status as a fellow Floridian and the latter's support for a strict abortion ban in his state.

"You know, I think Doug is great. But it is a strong — he’s taken a very strong stance. Or the state has, I don’t know if it’s Doug, but the state has, so it’s an issue," Trump said during his on appearance on Fox News.

Rubio's residence, he said "makes it more complicated" to choose him as a running mate.
