Fines, Wi-Fi blocks to be imposed on Quinnipiac U students who don't show proof of vaccination

Quinnipiac University will fine and impose Wi-Fi restrictions on students who fail to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 by the start of the fall semester.

Officials at the Connecticut school warned about 600 students on Monday who had yet to upload proof of their vaccinations that they would not be able to return to campus in the fall if they did not do so as soon as possible, WHDH-TV reported.

"Our goal is to protect the health of our entire university community," Quinnipiac officials wrote in the email. "In order to accomplish this we must know if you have been vaccinated."

A weekly charge will be issued to students who fail to upload a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination records, up to $2,275 for the semester, according to the news outlet. The fine will start at $100 per week for the semester's first two weeks, and increase by $25 every two weeks up to a $200 maximum per week.

Unvaccinated students must be tested weekly on campus, and if they fail to do so, they will be fined $100 for each missed week.

Access to the university's Wi-Fi system and network will be revoked if a student has failed to fulfill the vaccination requirement by Sept. 14, according to WHDH-TV.

Students who have already received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, and will receive the second dose by Sept. 14, will have fees and penalties waived.

After the email was sent out, 30 students uploaded their vaccination records, a Quinnipiac spokesperson said.

Full-time faculty and staff have already provided required vaccine documentation.
