Trump's name will reportedly appear on coronavirus stimulus checks
Americans are receiving payments from the government after Congress passed a stimulus package amid the pandemic
President Trump's name will appear on the coronavirus stimulus checks that Americans receive through the mail, according to the Washington Post, which reported that the Treasury Department has ordered the checks include the president's name.
The IRS has already electronically disbursed coronavirus stimulus payments to millions of Americans, but other people will instead receive physical checks through the mail. The president's name will not appear on the electronic payments.
The Washington Post described the move as "unprecedented."
"It will be the first time a president’s signature appears on an IRS disbursement, whether a routine refund or one of the handful of checks the government has issued to taxpayers in recent decades either to stimulate a down economy or share the dividends of a strong one," the outlet noted.
The payments come after Congress passed a massive stimulus package aiming to buoy individuals and businesses amid the coronavirus crisis that has crippled the nation's economy and left many people unemployed.
